Connect the Dots | "Via Lux"
The motif of the wolf and deer is quite frequent, perhaps edging if not fully entering the territory of cliche. I’ve meddled with it in the recent past as well, with the theme of vulnerability being explored through those two creatures. This time I’ve attempted a different theme with those symbols, the theme of enlightenment.
The scenery is deliberately middle Eastern, where the ideas of travelling to the point of harmony and peace have been historically well explored. Some of the richest cultures were bred in these areas, with some of the brightest points we have ever had. Science, astrology, mathematics, art, all having their limelight in the past, lighting the way to our present picture.
Another theme is balance. The person’s ability to tame and control the two opposing animals, the hunter and prey, speaks to the calmness and equilibrium necessary for the journey. The person is deliberately in silhouette, undefinable by age, race, sex or any other distinction. It could be any one of us.
The journey is leading to the light, which is mandala, replacing the rising Sun; another symbol of harmony, beauty and balance. The whole composition is aiming towards peace and balance, the two key words.
A bit of a personal piece, something I am aiming for in the new decade. Stability, calmness, level-headedness. A different kind of resolution, I guess less tangible than quitting smoking or going to the gym regularly, but still a goal.
