Connect the Dots | "Imprisoned by Freedom"

Nothing fuels an authoritarian regime like a crisis situation. COVID-19 has proved to be as much a health hazard as a political “excuse machine” to issue stricter and stricter sanctions on the general public, warranted or not.

Many, of course, were warranted but many seem to have less sense… laws and restrictions which don’t necessarily stop the spread of the virus as they do stop public upheaval. Thusly, in many countries, a second virus grew, whose symptoms include nationalism, racism, fascism and general division amongst the citizens. The virus itself is called power.

The main weapons of spreading seem to be two things: scaremongering and deliberate misinformation. Within this chaos people begin to revolt against everything, not only the governments themselves but also scientists, doctors, civil workers. They start revolting against revolts. The weapons of the virus serve their cause.

In the hope of returning freedom, people begin to build chains and walls.

Are the birds building their own cage or are they dismantling it? Is this an image that evokes thoughts of freedom or one which warns against illusions?
